Scientists from the University of Crete have developed an organic alternative to aspirin.
Medicine Professors Christos Lionis and Elias Castanas and Biology Professor Stergios Pirintsos worked together with the Agricultural Cooperative of Rethymno and the pharmaceutical manufacturing company Galenica AE to prepare a purely organic antidote to flu and cold, based on traditional and indigenous knowledge of therapeutic Cretan plants.
The new medicine consists of three Cretan herbs (that are kept secret by the manufacturers) blended with olive oil. It is expected to be approved by the Greek Pharmaceutical Organisation within the next months.
