The plan for a Botanical Garden in the Ancient Olympia archaeological site was approved by the Central Archaeological Council. The "Olympic Botanical Garden" will be planted in a 6-acre plot between the Archaeological Museum and the Olympia Hill and will be used for educational purposes.
It will contain plants native to the area, plus 6,000 bushes of aromatic and medicinal herbs, with signs providing scientific and historical information, as well as its mythological connotations.
The project - at an estimated cost of €150,000 - is sponsored by the Municipality of Munich in Germany, which in 2007, following the devastating fires in the Peloponnese, pledged to help.
