The text of the law for the implementation of the Medium-Term Fiscal Strategic Programme was approved by the cabinet, during a meeting yesterday. Addressing the cabinet, Prime Minister George Papandreou said that "the vote of confidence given to the government constitutes a reaffirmation of the mandate to continue the tough effort we have started 20 months ago."
Papandreou also stressed that the government is trying to ensure that the country will receive the necessary funds and make the debt sustainable in a tough, unstable and often uneasy international environment. Today, the Premier is leaving for Brussels to participate in the two-day EU summit.
According to a press release by the Finance Ministry, at yesterday’s meeting government Vice-president and Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos briefed the Government Committee and the Cabinet on the state of negotiations with the Troika on the finalization of the charts of the Medium-Term Fiscal Strategy, the content of the Implementation Law as well as the update of the Memorandum.
On June 27-28 the Medium-Term Fiscal Strategy will be discussed during a parliamentary plenary session, while on June 28, the Standing Committee will discuss the Implementation Law which must then pass by June 30.
