The Los Angeles Greek Film Festival 2011 (LAGFF) is taking place in the City of Angels from June 9 to 12.
In its fifth edition, LAGFF showcases new films by Greek filmmakers, aiming to promote Greek cinema and cultural exchange while bridging the gap between Greek filmmakers and Hollywood.
"This year’s films represent all facets of Greek life – humor, music, wine, erotica, and family… with a twist! Los Angeles audience will not be disappointed," says Ersi Danou, LAGFF co-founder.
The festival opens with Lea Binzer’s documentary Pelican’s Watch about a small winemaking community on the island of Santorini and its battles to stop vineyards being sold off for development. The screening will be followed by a reception featuring some of the top Greek wines.
On June 10, the musical documentary film My Sweet Canary, a musical and cinematic journey through the life and music of the "queen of Rebetico music," Roza Eskenazy, directed by Roy Sher will premiere at the LAGFF.
The festival closes with the world premiere of Burning Heads by Giorgos Siougas, and the Orpheus Awards ceremony. The festival will be held at the Laemmle’s Sunset 5 in West Hollywood, while the closing night at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills.
