Prime Minister George Papandreou sent a letter to his Norwegian counterpart Jens Stoltenberg, expressing his heartfelt condolences over the attacks in Oslo and the island of Utoya.
Papandreou said he was deeply shocked to hear of the massive young people killing on Utoya Island that claimed innocent lives while injuring others. "I fully share the feelings of pain of the people of Norway, who suffered this violent blow of terror," said Papandreou, expressing his deepest sympathy on behalf of the Greek people and government.
"Greece remains committed to the longstanding friendship between our two peoples and countries and our common fight against acts of terror. We stand side by side with Norway and its people in these difficult moments," Papandreou concluded. Foreign Minister Stavros Lambrinidis also sent condolences to his Norwegian counterpart Jonas Gahr Støre.
