A day ahead the today’s extraordinary European Union Summit, Prime Minister George Papandreou met with European Commission President José Manuel Barroso on July 20, in Brussels.
The content of their meeting, which lasted more than an hour, remained private and no statements were made to the journalists.
Apart from meeting with Barroso, Papandreou also spoke on the phone with the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, Spanish Premier Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, Portuguese leader Pedro Passos Coelho and Irish Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
Today, Papandreou is due to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at noon, an hour ahead of the eurozone leaders’ meeting.
"The summit will determine the future of the country and of Europe," said Government Spokesman Ilias Mossialos in a written statement.
