- Tribute to a Great Filmmaker
The Michael Cacoyannis Foundation is hosting, until September 16, a retrospective, honouring the memory of its founder, film director Cacoyannis who died in July.
The tribute includes screenings of 15 of his feature-length movies as well as of a TV film that has never been screened in Greece before.
B O O K F E S T I V A L
- 40th Book Festival
The 40th Book Festival was inaugurated on September 4 by Hellenic Republic President Karolos Papoulias, at the Zappeion Gardens in downtown Athens. More than 50,000 titles by 150 publishers are presented at the festival which this year is dedicated to the 2011 European Year of Volunteering.
The festival also features a pavilion dedicated to books and magazines that were censored or prohibited during the 7-year dictatorship in Greece and a pavilion set up by the National Transplants Organisation with informational material on organ donation. The Festival runs through September 18.

- Manolis Charos - Aesop’s Fables @ Benaki Museum
The Benaki Museum is hosting until October 16 the exhibition Manolis Charos - Aesop’s Fables.
The exhibition presents contemporary paintings and engravings inspired by Aesop’s Fables, containing references to the manner in which those fables were transformed into images over the past 2500 years.
- Vanessa Mae Live in Athens
Vanessa Mae and her electric violin will be back in Athens for one performance on September 14 at the Herodes Atticus Odeon. With a repertoire spanning classical composers like Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Vivaldi but also Indian music, pop songs, ballads and works by Greek composer Vangelis, the audience can look forward to what promises to be another unforgettable evening.
