October 24, is celebrated as United Nations Day, the anniversary of the signing of the Charter of the United Nations. On October 31, the world's population is expected to reach 7 billion. In his message for UN Day, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon invited humanity to unite, in the name of global common good.
"Days from now, the human family will welcome its seven billionth member. Some say our planet is too crowded. I say we are seven billion strong. The world has made remarkable progress since the United Nations was born 66 years ago, today."
