- Israeli Tourism in Thessaloniki on the Rise
The forging of new Greek-Israeli ties, along with Thessaloniki’s historical importance for the Jewish Diaspora, have brought a sharp increase in the number of Israeli tourists to the city. According to data released by the Union of Hotel Owners of Thessaloniki, overnight stays of Israeli tourists have increased fivefold in 2011, reaching 59,000, while estimates for 2012 foresee a further rise.- Halkidiki-Turkish Airlines Cooperation
The launch of a cooperation initiative between the Tourism Organization of Halkidiki and Turkish Airlines was announced at a press conference in Istanbul, in February.
The initiative aims at promoting Halkidiki and the city of Thessaloniki as tourism destinations in Turkey. The launch of an Istanbul-Thessaloniki flight, following a similar initiative between the airliner and the City of Thessaloniki brought more than 30,000 Turkish tourists to the city in 2011.
