One day after ND leader Samaras received an exploratory mandate by the President of the Republic, New Democracy officials met with PASOK and Democratic Left representatives to deliberate on the formulation of a policy framework, that would form the basis for a coalition government.
The tripartite talks resume today with the aim of finalising an agreement concerning the formation of a coalition government and the new cabinet’s make-up.
Earlier yesterday, PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos had expressed optimism for the formation of a coalition government after a one-hour meeting with Democratic Left leader Fotis Kouvelis, adding that "we have a very large degree of convergence of views."
Addressing his party’s Central Committee yesterday, Democratic Left leader Fotis Kouvelis advocated for a vote of confidence to the new government without, however, the participation of any Democratic Left deputies.
