Agreement on Coalition Gov’t Expected
One day after
ND leader Samaras received an exploratory mandate by the President of the Republic
, New Democracy officials met with PASOK and Democratic Left representatives to deliberate on the formulation of a policy framework, that would form the basis for a coalition government.
The tripartite talks resume today with the aim of finalising an agreement concerning the formation of a coalition government and the new cabinet’s make-up.
PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos had expressed optimism
for the formation of a coalition government after a one-hour meeting with Democratic Left leader Fotis Kouvelis, adding that "we have a very large degree of convergence of views."
Addressing his party’s Central Committee yesterday, Democratic Left leader Fotis Kouvelis
advocated for a vote of confidence
to the new government without, however, the participation of any Democratic Left deputies.
