Renowned Greek author Georges Sari (nom de plume for Georgia Sarivaxevani) passed away on June 9 at the age of 87.

Sari wrote numerous novels, particularly popular among Greek teenagers, largely based on her personal experiences from turbulent times in the history of Greece (the German Occupation, the Civil War, the dictatorial regimes imposed in 1936 and 1967).

She also wrote children’s books, for which she had been nominated for the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1988. Sari had also starred in a number of films, among which Jules Dassin’s Phaedra (1962).
