According to the Interior Ministry results of the Parliamentary Elections that took place yesterday (June 17) throughout the country, seven parties are entering the Hellenic Parliament.


With 99.96% of the vote counted, the results are as follows: New Democracy (ND) polls first with 29.66% securing 129 seats, the Coalition of Radical Left (SYRIZA) is in second place with 26.89% of vote and 71 seats, PASOK is third with 12.28% and 33 seats, the Independent Greeks party gets 7.51% and 20 seats, Chrysi Avgi (Golden Dawn) gets 6.92% and 18 seats, Democratic Left 6.26% of vote and 17 seats and the Communist Party of Greece 4.50% of vote and 12 seats.


The Popular Orthodox Rally  party (LAOS) and Eco-Greens with 1.58% and 0.88% respectively fell short of the 3% threshold needed to enter Parliament. Abstention reached 37.53%, slightly higher that in May 6 elections.

Later today, the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament Vyron Polydoras will submit the election results to Hellenic Republic President Karolos Papoulias, who, in turn, will give the leader of the party which polled first, Antonis Samaras of New Democracy, the exploratory mandate to form a government enjoying the confidence of the Parliament.
