Finance Minister Yiannis Stournaras attended his first Eurogroup meeting since the assumption of his duties, yesterday in Brussels. Ahead of the meeting, Stournaras held talks with Eurogroup president Jean-Claude Juncker and his French counterpart Pierre Moscovici. Meanwhile, according to reports, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble sent a letter to Stournaras congratulating him upon his appointment as Greece’s new Finance Minister.

Schaeuble further notes that joint efforts are required to safeguard stability in the European Union and in the eurozone in particular, stressing that Greece has an important role to play in future developments. In a separate development, Minister of Development, Infrastructure, Transport and Networks Kostis Hatzidakis held meetings with the Ambassador of Germany in Athens, Wolfgang Dold and the Ambassador of China, Du Qiwen focusing mostly on new investment prospects.
