Stournaras was told that Greece must implement the much-delayed measures worth €3 billion before discussions on a potential extension of the adjustment programme resume.
During the Eurogroup meeting, Stournaras warned his counterparts of the severe economic recession in Greece and its adverse ramifications, stressing though that the country will try to achieve its fiscal deficit goal for the current year.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the FinMin told reporters that he did not request the extension of the Greek adjustment programme, but expressed confidence that "when the time comes (the request) will be made, because it is fair, [..] we are currently in the fifth year of recession."
In a press conference, following the conclusion of the Eurogroup meeting, its president Jean-Claude Juncker stressed that final decisions on the Greek issue will be made after the submission of the troika’s final report on the progress of the Greek programme.
