  • Between the Seas: A Festival for Mediterranean Performing Arts
Between the Seas Festival of Mediterranean performing arts will take place in New York from August 20 to 26. Following the success of its first edition last year, Between the Seas returns at the Wild Project venue in East Village for a celebration of contemporary Mediterranean culture. This year, the festival features dance and theatre performances from Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Israel, as well as staged readings and screenings.
From Greece, artist Olga Pozeli -founder of Noiti Grammi theatre company in Athens- explores the limits of political corruption and responsibility in her solo performance headed When the red Toyota went off the road and sank in black water. Between the Seas -the first and only festival in North America with a mission to promote contemporary Mediterranean performing arts- runs under the artistic and producing direction of Aktina Stathaki.
  • Greek Nights @ NY Athens Square Park
As of July 10 and on Tuesdays until early September, the Athens Square Park in New York hosts its annual Greek Nights event.

Organised by the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York, Greek Nights feature music performances for Diaspora Greeks.

Situated at the 30th Avenue and 30th Street in Astoria, the Athens Square Park was founded in 1982 as a locus for neighbourhood gatherings with the aim to create "a little bit of Athens in Astoria."
