The city of Kastoria, in western Macedonia, is hosting from August 31 to September 2, Alexiada, a Medieval Byzantine Festival.

Named after Anna Komnene’s (Comnena) Alexiad -a historical account of her father’s rein Alexius I Comnenus, who defeated the Normans in Kastoria in 1083- the event is an original and highly interesting festival bringing together the city’s past and present through music, images and tastes.

Alexiada Festival features medieval Byzantine concerts, talks, parades with medieval costumes, banners and music, visits to the Open Medieval Byzantine Traders Market as well as street theatre performances.
