The time has come for the 18th Athens International Film Festival Opening Nights, which is taking place from September 19 through 30, at new venues -the Odeon, Odeon Opera 2, Danaos 1 & 2 and Ideal cinemas in downtown Athens.
The festival brings to the Athenian audience highlights of the current film season as well as happenings, parties, seminars and of course the most glamorous premieres of international cinema.
The "menu" includes atmospheric film-noirs, revolutionary romances, legendary classical productions, entertaining cinematographic debuts, alternative narrations, international cutting edge productions, musical surprises, as well as subversive documentaries. Jacques Audiard's Rust and Bone, starring Marion Cottillard and Matthias Schoenaerts, will open this year’s events.
The Festival includes two competition sections: an International Competition and a Film and Music Competition section. It also features a Panorama of world cinema, midnight movies, premieres of big-budget productions of the coming season, and a competitive short film section -which will showcase Yorgos Zois’s award-winning Out of Frame.
Finally, it invites young photographers to prove the sparkle of their glance and their bold disposition by taking part in a photo competition to capture the Festival's ambience with a camera.
