An event honouring Greece's archaeologists and people working on the preservation and restoration of the country's ancient theatres is staged at the Theatre of Dionysus, at the foot of the Acropolis, on September 22. It is the first performance in modern times staged at the theatre since the drama competitions that took place about 2,500 ago, and will only be attended by 500 spectators.
The programme features a world premiere of Monologue, a composition by composer Giorgos Couroupos, based on two monologues drawn from Aeschylus’ Prometheus Bound, and a performance of Psappha, an Iannis Xenakis’ composition for solo percussion.
The Athens Camerata will also perform excerpts from baroque works: Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice and Vivaldi’s Il Coro delle Muse & L’Olimpiade. The concert is a co-production of Megaron and Diazoma association.
