Hellenic Republic President Karolos Papoulias paid a three-day visit to Italy from September 15 to 17, to attend the commemoration events for those who died in the Battle of Rimini, in August-September 1944. Papoulias laid a wreath at the memorial monument and held talks with Greek and Italian survivors of the Rimini Battle, a decisive battle of WWII. Papoulias also met with his Italian counterpart Giorgio Napolitano, yesterday in Rome

President Papoulias thanked the political leadership of Italy for its support and referred to the latest developments in the fiscal crisis, stressing that "the problem of the Eurozone is primarily political and requires a political solution." On his part, President Napolitano said that Greece is an integral part of Europe’s history and culture, of the euro and the European integration process.
