The Center for Hellenic Studies of Harvard University has announced the Ancient Graffiti Project, a week-long workshop focused on the Greek graffiti of Pompeii and Herculaneum, to take place at the Center for Hellenic Studies, in Washington D.C., from August 3 to 7, 2015.

The Ancient Graffiti Project aims to make the first-century AD handwritten inscriptions from ancient Pompeii and Herculaneum accessible to a wide audience, both for scholarly research and for public interest. Approximately 7000 messages were written on the walls of these two towns, which were destroyed by the catastrophic eruption of nearby Mt. Vesuvius in the year AD 79. The deadline for applications is May 20, 2015.
