In its 9th edition, the Festival of Greek-Turkish Friendship (June 12-15) was hosted in the city of Xanthi (Thrace, northeast Greece) and in Princes’ Islands (the nine small islands off the city of Istanbul in the Sea of Marmara, Turkey).
The festival was organized by the Turkish-Greek Friendship Association, "Daphne," founded with the purpose of enhancing mutual cultural ties.
The festival first started in 2001, as an initiative by Greek-Turkish academia, distinguished artists, entrepreneurs, and journalists. Each festival hosts a number of workshops and cultural activities and is divided in two parts, one taking place in Greece and the other in Turkey.
"The journey of reconciliation has a significant history and the road to peace and unity holds plenty of mutually beneficial opportunities," according organisers.
