In the south Peloponnese in Messinia Prefecture, the Costa Navarino resort recently opened its doors to visitors. Built by the crystal-clear waters of the Ionian Sea, it is the first of its kind in Greece.
With a commitment to environmental responsibility, Costa Navarino boasts two pioneering environmental developments: the Environmental Observatory - which is dedicated to the study of climate change - and the Natura Hall (opening in 2011), an interactive exhibition centre developed to raise awareness of environmental issues.
By installing the biggest geothermal system of its kind in Europe – a worldwide first, due to its size, to be placed underneath a golf course- the resort will also achieve significant reductions in energy consumption.
