The government's plan to redraw local authorities’ boundaries, better known as "Kallikratis" - which will replace the 1,034 municipalities with less than 370 - was voted on in principle by the Parliament. The bill was approved with 160 votes for and 124 against. Debate on the plan continued yesterday, while protests against the reform remained unabated.
On his part, Interior Minister Yiannis Ragousis stressed that the government's plan is a huge venture that will bring forth a radical governance model. The debate will go on with deputies focusing on each article separately.
