In a three page interview, the premier answered questions regarding the economic situation in Greece noting that the euro-zone has reached a tipping point which will bring it before an "historic reflection period."

George Nikitiadis was sworn in on May 21 as the new Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism in the presence of President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias.
The ceremony was also attended by Prime Minister George Papandreou and Culture Minister Pavlos Geroulanos. Nikitiadis - an elected MP from of the Dodecanese Islands constituency - replaced Angela Gerekou, who recently resigned from the post.

Nikitiadis will travel to Germany tomorrow for a series of meetings, visiting also the Greek pavilion at the IMEX 2010 - the worldwide exhibition for incentive travel in Frankfurt.

Marking a Guinness world record, 2,900 Harley Davidson motorcycles crossed the Rion- Antirion Bridge outside the city of Patra.
They participated at the Harley Davidson Super Rally 2010, a meeting which was long anticipated by the Club’s European fans.
The "Patra record" was achieved by breaking the previous one which involved 2,500 motorbikes crossing a bridge. The cable-stayed bridge outside Patra is nearly 2.5 km long and is in the top-10 list of the world’s longest span for cable-stayed bridges.

Prime Minister George Papandreou travelled to Beirut on an official visit (May 19-20).
The premier met with his Lebanese counterpart Saad Harriri and addressed the 18th Arab Business Forum.
Appealing to Arab nations to invest in Greece, Papandreou said that "we invite you all to join us, whether that is visiting Greece, investing in the country directly, or cooperating with us on projects which will secure a better future for the sake of all our countries."
Papandreou suggested the establishment of a Euro-Mediterranean Forum which would seek cooperation at an economic and social development
Hellenic Republic President Karolos Papoulias received the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak at the Presidential Mansion yesterday.
The two presidents spoke of the excellent bilateral relations, pointing out that "there is still room for greater cooperation in the sectors of economy and trade." The Egyptian President also met with Prime Minister George Papandreou, upon the latter’s return from Lebanon.

Queen Sophia of Spain, on a two-day visit to Greece, inaugurated on May 19 the new building of Cervantes Institute in Athens.
Present at the inauguration ceremony were Culture Minister Pavlos Geroulanos and the Spanish ambassador to Greece Miguel Fuertes Suarez. The Cervantes Institute which promotes the Spanish language and culture was established in Athens in 1992.
