Does summer school sound like a boring idea? What if it’s by the sea? Even better: On a sunny Greek island, everyone’s ideal summer destination! University of the Aegean Summer Schools give researchers around the world the unique opportunity to participate in state-of-the-art research activities and exchange innovative ideas while exploring the Aegean Islands. The various programmes cover a vast array of research areas, each one lasting for several days, taking place throughout the summer and until early September. Registration is still open for most of them.

University of the Aegean

The University of the Aegean, founded in 1984, is situated in 6 picturesque islands in the Aegean Archipelago; introducing new approaches to higher education, it offers a unique natural, cultural and human environment for modern studies in the ancient cradle of knowledge.   Its summer school programmes are addressed at international students, junior and senior researchers but also the general public. “Class” sizes range from 15-30 participants, depending on the particular focus of each summer school. Everyone taking part is certain to enjoy a unique natural, cultural and human environment for modern studies in the ancient cradle of knowledge.

The Summer Schools

University of the Aegean Summer Schools consists of a portfolio of programmes functioning in English usually at Bachelor, Master and PhD level within the fields of Humanities, Social Sciences, Environment, Science, and Business. Each Summer School provides a unique academic programme intertwined with an attractive social programme for both lecturers and students, to cater the needs of each research theme. Accommodation and transfer information and application forms (including needs in visas and payment) are provided at each summer school site.

In July-September 2018, the University of the Aegean is running 13 programmes offered by its academic staff, and supported by researchers from other Greek research institutions and international guest lecturers from all over the world. There is a variety of teaching and learning methods in each programme, consisting of highly interactive activities (seminars, workshops, round tables, panels, hands-on activities etc), often animated by more than one lecturer. All the discussion topics, methods and outcomes of University of the Aegean Summer Schools are based on the frontiers of research and have a strong interdisciplinary perspective. Research and education are tightly interlinked to ensure the quality and depth of the programme.
