The Hellenic Observatory, located in the LSE’s European Institute, celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2016.

To commemorate this important milestone, a series of special events will be hosted in LSE, starting today with a public lecture by Louka Katseli, Chairwoman of the National Bank of Greece and the Hellenic Banking Association and Professor at the Department of Economics of the University of Athens. Professor Katseli will talk about the “Lesson from the Greek crisis”, mainly on how to draw valuable lessons from the Greek crisis that would serve as means to address similar phenomena in the future in the context of the Eurozone, with a special focus on the interplay between growth, sustainable public finances and social protection systems.

On Wednesday, February 10th, Mr. Euripides L. Evriviades, High Commissioner for the Republic of Cyprus to the UK will give a lecture on “Cyprus and new security issues in the Eastern Mediterranean” in an effort to underline why Cyprus and the EU are important to each other and will discuss the long term security of the region.

The last part of the thematic public events on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Hellenic Observatory will be the presentation of the book “Who’s to Blame for Greece?” written by Theodore Pelagidis and Michael Mitsopoulos, on Tuesday March 1st.

From Monday 7th until Friday 18th March, visitors are welcome to an art exhibition “Imagine Greece”, presenting the work of 34 photographers showcasing images of the country and the Greek people. The exhibition is organised by the Hellenic Observatory and Photoglobe Seminars.

As part of the commemoration of the Hellenic Observatory’s 20year anniversary years, the HO team has prepared a special video, presenting the views of prominent figures in the world of academia, politics and finance, with figures and statistics that showcase some of the Observatory’s important achievements and activities over the last 20 years.
