The Centre for the Greek Language has announced the publication of two new Greek editions for Students of Greek as a foreign Language: Click in Greek and Certificate of Attainment in Greek test papers for C2 level. Consisting of two volumes for B2 level students and utilising principles of modern language teaching methodology, Click in Greek also offers users two CDs with examination material and songs, as well as access to its platform in the Centre for Greek Language Portal, so that users can work with Centre for Greek language interface and browse through complementary teaching material.

Certificate of Attainment in Greek Sample Test Papers for C2 Level includes test material for reading comprehension, language use, listening comprehension and writing and speaking skills. The material is designed to familiarize candidates with C1 level exam structure and enhance the necessary skills for obtaining Certificate of Attainment in Greek.

Recent decades were marked by a steady increase of foreigners living and working in Greece. As Greek language is one of the primary tools towards social integration, courses of Greek as a second/foreign language are offered in virtually all Greek universities and  private institutions in various parts of Greece. The Centre for Greek Language (CGL) is the official institution of the Ministry of Education responsible for the administration of Certificates of Attainment in Greek which provide users of Greek with an evaluation of their knowledge and serve as proof of the successful candidate’s level of attainment in Greek in the work market.

PistopExams and registration dates

Certificate of Attainment in Greek Candidates take exams each May for a range of 6 levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) in linguistic proficiency. Registration period for 2017 is from February 1 to March 19, 2017. There are ten exam centers around Greece and about 140 abroad. Exam and registration dates are announced at the exam centers in the beginning of each academic year and are the same for all exam centers worldwide.

CGL is also responsible for conducting examinations for the Certificate of Attainment in Greek for Professional Purposes for professionals of European Union or third countries who wish to work in Greece and thus need to prove their proficiency in Greek. Exam dates for 2017 are January 13 (registration from November 28 to December 16, 2016) and March 16 (registration from 1 February to 24 March 2017).

Centre for the Greek Language

The Centre for the Greek Language was established in 1994 in Thessaloniki, Greece. It is a non-profit organization supervised by the Greek Ministry of Education and in cooperation with the Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs. CGL aims at the overall support and promotion of the Greek language in Greece and abroad, the organization of teaching of Greek to foreigners in Greece and abroad, supporting Greek language teachers in Greece and abroad and the production of all relevant materials contributing to the promotion and diffusion of the Greek language. CGL has four academic divisions: Lexicography, Linguistics, Support and Promotion of the Greek Language and Language and Literature. The researchers at these divisions have undertaken a significant number of projects in the field of language education.

Through its Portal for the Greek Language, aimed for teachers, students and researchers of the Greek language, CGL provides a useful digital environment for the dissemination of the Greek language.
