The construction of a fence on Greece’s border with Turkey, with the goal of deterring illegal immigrants from entering the country, was completed on December 15, after approximately 8 months of work. The fence spans a distance of 10,365 metres, it is 4 metres high to prevent climbing, and it stretches from the checkpoint of Kastanies to the Evros river. Construction cost amounted to € 3.16 million.
In a separate development, Public Order & Citizen Protection minister, Nikolaos Dendias is visiting Pakistan, on January 7-8, where he will hold a series of meetings with the country’s officials to discuss issues related to the implementation of the EU-Pakistan Readmission Agreement.
