Secretary General of Communication and Information Dimitris Kirmikiroglou met with the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media (RFoM), Jan Braathu, as part of the Greek official’s visit to the OSCE. The meeting focused on reforms for media freedom, combating misinformation, and enhancing journalists’ safety. Mr. Kirmikirolou presented the reforms being implemented by the country as part of the comprehensive strategy for media freedom and democratic resilience: incorporation of the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA), a National Media Education Strategy with programs in over 30 schools, strengthening of the National Council for Radio and Television (NCRTV), historic reform in the licensing of regional channels, expansion of the Task Force for Journalists’ Safety, legislative provision for funding the SLAPPs Observatory of the Panhellenic Federation of Journalists' Unions (POESY), and many other initiatives.

Cooperation is also being promoted through the ‘International Training Center for the Safety of Journalists & Media Professionals” in Thessaloniki, which in March 2026 will host the Training School ‘Safety for Journalists’ and the conference on Trauma and Resilience in Contemporary Journalism, titled “Bearing Witness: Trauma and Resilience in Contemporary Journalism”.
