The National Strategy for the Protection of Cultural Heritage from the Impacts of Climate Change was recently presented at the Acropolis Museum. This pioneering initiative marks the first comprehensive effort in Greece to integrate climate considerations into the management, protection, and promotion of cultural heritage—placing the country among the few globally adopting such a holistic approach.

Through collaboration between the Ministry of Culture, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and the National Hellenic Research Foundation—alongside key ministries responsible for climate crisis management and environmental policy—the strategy is built on detailed risk assessments addressing challenges such as wildfires, floods, extreme heat, landslides, and coastal erosion.
