Greece joins U.S.-led “Pax Silica” initiative on AI, semiconductors, and critical minerals

Greece has officially joined the “Pax Silica” initiative, promoted by the United States to strengthen cooperation in artificial intelligence, energy, and the security of supply chains for semiconductors and critical minerals.

The declaration was signed on Tuesday afternoon at the U.S. State Department by Greece’s Ambassador to Washington, Antonis Alexandridis, and the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, Jacob Helberg.

“Pax Silica” is a U.S.-led initiative aimed at building more secure and resilient supply chains in strategically important technology sectors. Its focus includes semiconductors and critical minerals, with the broader goal of reducing Western dependence on China.

National Archive of Monuments: Memory and Future for Cultural Heritage

“The National Archive of Monuments is no longer a vision or a plan for the future. It is a living reality. It is a national infrastructure of knowledge. It is a tool for protection, research, education, and development. At the same time, it is a long-term investment. A long-term investment in memory, identity, development, and the country’s future”, stated Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, at the conference “National Archive of Monuments: Memory and Future for Cultural Heritage,” which took place today (23/6) at the amphitheater of the National Gallery – Alexandros Soutsos Museum.

The conference presented the new integrated digital ecosystem of the National Archive of Monuments, a project funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility and implemented under the supervision of the Directorate for the Management of the National Archive of Monuments of the Ministry of Culture.

NKUA and Yale Launch Joint Master’s Program in Environmental Sciences and Global Public Health

The presentation of the new English-language dual Master’s Degree Program, “Environmental Sciences and Global Public Health,” took place on Tuesday, June 23, at the Kostis Palamas Cultural Center of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). The program is being implemented in collaboration with Yale University.

The event, titled “One Health: The New Era in Environmental Sciences and Global Public Health,” was held in the presence of Greece’s Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Sofia Zacharaki, along with members of the academic community, students, researchers, representatives of organizations, and members of the public.

The event was addressed by the Rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Professor Gerasimos Siasos, the Minister of Education, Sofia Zacharaki, and the Deputy Minister of Education, Nikos Papaioannou. They emphasized the importance of the internationalization of higher education and cooperation with leading universities abroad.

Ms. Zacharaki described the NKUA–Yale University collaboration as one of the most significant international academic partnerships, noting that it is part of a broader strategy for a public university that is more outward-looking, international, and competitive. She stated that Greece can evolve into a regional hub for education, research, and innovation in environmental science and public health.
