📜 An agreement for ExxonMobil to participate with a 60% stake in the Energean-Helleniq Energy Joint Venture, which has the rights to explore for hydrocarbons in Block 2 in the Ionian Sea, was signed within the framework of the Partnership of Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC) meeting - with the next step being the implementation of exploratory drilling, for the first time in 40 years.

The agreement was signed in the presence of US Energy Secretaries Chris Wright, Interior (and head of the National Energy Dominance Council) Doug Burgum, Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou, US Ambassador to Athens Kimberly Guilfoyle, ExxonMobil Vice President for Global Exploration Dr. John Ardill, CEO of Helleniq Energy Andreas Shiamishis, and CEO of Energean Group Matthew Rigas.

"Today we are writing a new chapter in Greece’s energy history," emphasised Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in his message on Thursday regarding the agreement for ExxonMobil’s participation in the concession of Block 2.

"This is not yet another investment. It will be the first exploratory drilling in our country in almost 40 years. A historic moment. An act of responsibility and vision.

We are making our commitment a reality: to utilise our national wealth with planning and foresight. For a Greece that is energy-secure, geopolitically strong, and attractive to investment," concluded Mitsotakis in his message.

📚📚Poet Eleni Alexiou spoke to Reading Greece about her latest #poetry collection "seven breaths ago" (Saixpirikon, 2022), the main themes her poetry delves into, and the pivotal role of #language in her writings.

"Poetry works as a telescopic lens. How does one envision the future? What do we long for? Poetry becomes a means of escape, a destination, a path and a compass pointing toward whatever one dares to imagine. As Greek poet Andreas Embirikos writes: “My eyelids are transparent curtains. When I open them, I see whatever happens to lie before me. When I close them, I see whatever I desire”. The same goes for poems – they are eyelids".
