🌱 The "purple rivers" of Molyvos have once again spread over the cobbled streets of the picturesque village of Lesvos.🪻The flower with the impressive bunches of purple flowers called “salkimia,” is a trademark of Molyvos and blooms around Easter. In Lesvos they call “salkimi” this plant – that belongs in the family of wisteria, while in in the rest of Greece it is known as “glisina” or “glitsina” On the island of Lesvos, the name “salkimi” - from the Turkish word that means bunch - prevailed, as the flower was planted in villages the where Greek refugees from Asia Minor settled, always as a memory from the homeland but also to provide much needed shade for yards and public spaces.📸 APE-MPA / ILIAS MARKOU
