Events commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Exodus of Missolonghi.

A powerful tribute unfolds as the iconic masterpiece “Greece on the Ruins of Missolonghi” by Eugène Delacroix arrives at the Xenokrateion Archaeological Museum. On loan from the Museum of Fine Arts of Bordeaux, the painting honors the heroic Exodus of 1826—an act of sacrifice that shaped history and inspired Europe (cover photo by journalist Nikos Aliagas). Alongside this, a remarkable exhibition in Missolonghi (“Exodus, 1826–2026”), featuring artifacts from the collections of the National Historical Museum, and an exhibition at the Benaki Museum (“Missolonghi 1826: 200 Years since the Exodus”), dedicated to the Holy City of Missolonghi, the Greek War of Independence, and the Philhellenic movement, bring to life the Siege, the Exodus, and their lasting legacy through rare artifacts, artworks, and historical narratives. Two hundred years later, Missolonghi remains a timeless symbol of freedom, dignity, and collective memory.
