The exhibition "Ghika: A Journey to India" was inaugurated in December at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), the main museum at Jaipur House in New Delhi, India.
Curated in collaboration with The Benaki Museum and the Embassy of Greece in India, the exhibition features works by seminal Greek artist Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghika (1906–1994) along with memorabilia from his journey to India in 1958; it will run until February 12, 2026.
Ghika’s month-long visit to India had taken him to various cities, including New Delhi, Kolkata and Jaipur; a series of paintings and writings capture his impressions from that journey.
The inauguration event was addressed by Vivek Aggarwal, Secretary of India's Union Ministry of Culture, Aliki Koutsomitopoulou, Ambassador of Greece to India, Dr Sanjeev Kishor Goutam, director general of the National Gallery of Modern Art and Ioanna Moraiti, curator of the Ghika Gallery Archive at Benaki Museum. It was attended by senior diplomats, representatives of the museum and art experts, received extensive media coverage and was highly appraised.
The exhibition is part of the celebrations for the 75 years of diplomatic relations between Greece and India, and offers an excellent opportunity to showcase and promote modern Greek culture to India.
