Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni presented the actions and initiatives of the Ministry of Culture for the integration and utilization of artificial intelligence in the cultural sector, in the presence of researchers and scientists collaborating on the program. The use of artificial intelligence by the Ministry is part of the broader framework of the national AI strategy, which constitutes a central government priority aimed at positioning Greece at the forefront of international developments in this field.

The two main studies, “National Strategy for the Integration of Artificial Intelligence in the Management, Preservation, and Promotion of Cultural Heritage” and “Strategic Study for the Protection of Copyright and Related Rights in the Development of AI across All Forms of Art,” were prepared by a technical advisor (the consulting firm Ernst & Young) and by the Hellenic Copyright Organization (HCO), respectively.

Lina Mendoni elaborated also in detail on “the active participation and contribution of the Ministry of Culture to the development of AI services for Language and Culture, following the recent signing of a memorandum with the newly established company ‘Hellenic Artificial Intelligence Factory S.A.’ (Pharos AI Factory). The Ministry will play a decisive role in the creation of Greek Data Spaces for Language and Cultural Heritage, in the development and training of a Greek Large Language Model (LLM) based on reliable and well-documented scientific data, and in the development of a toolkit including datasets, services, and AI models for use by public bodies, research institutions, cultural organizations, and small and medium-sized enterprises in the sector.”
