Greece’s Diplomatic History Enters the Digital Age

🗓️ Starting Monday, 21 September 2026, the new digital platform of the Diplomatic and Historical Archives Service (YDIA) of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be available both at the YDIA Reading Room and online at arxeio.mfa.gr.

🔎 Through the platform, researchers will be able to explore the catalogues of declassified archival material held by YDIA without prior registration.

As part of this ambitious digitisation project:

📚 Tens of millions of pages have been digitized and microfilmed;

🗂️ Tens of thousands of archival files have been catalogued and organised;

💻 A digital infrastructure has been created to ensure the secure preservation, search, and controlled use of the material;

🤖 Artificial Intelligence tools are being integrated to further facilitate access to the archives.

💻 Η διπλωματική ιστορία της Ελλάδας περνά στην ψηφιακή εποχή

🗓️Από τη Δευτέρα 21 Σεπτεμβρίου 2026 τίθεται σε λειτουργία η νέα ψηφιακή πλατφόρμα της Υπηρεσίας Διπλωματικού και Ιστορικού Αρχείου του Υπουργείου Εξωτερικών, στο Αναγνωστήριο της ΥΔΙΑ και διαδικτυακά στο arxeio.mfa.gr.

Μέσω της πλατφόρμας, οι ερευνητές & ερευνήτριες θα μπορούν να συμβουλεύονται, χωρίς προηγούμενη εγγραφή, τους καταλόγους του αποδεσμευμένου αρχειακού υλικού της ΥΔΙΑ.

Στο πλαίσιο της ψηφιοποίησης:
• ψηφιοποιήθηκαν & μικροφωτογραφήθηκαν δεκάδες εκατομμύρια σελίδες,
• ταξινομήθηκαν δεκάδες χιλιάδες αρχειακοί φάκελοι,
• δημιουργήθηκε ψηφιακή υποδομή για ασφαλή διατήρηση, αναζήτηση & ελεγχόμενη αξιοποίηση του υλικού,
• ενσωματώνονται εργαλεία Τεχνητής Νοημοσύνης.

🔵Το Αρχείο του Υπουργείου Εξωτερικών αποτελεί τη θεσμική μνήμη της ελληνικής εξωτερικής πολιτικής και ένα πολύτιμο εργαλείο έρευνας και διπλωματίας.

🇬🇷 IHA Supports Greece’s Remote Islands – 3rd International SMART ISLANDS Conference in Gavdos

The International Hellenic Association (IHA), in collaboration with the Municipality of Gavdos, the Region of Crete, the Regional Union of Municipalities of Crete, and participating municipalities, extends an open invitation to Greeks around the world to take part in the 3rd International SMART ISLANDS Conference.

📍 September 22–23, 2026
📍 Sarakiniko Stone Theatre, Gavdos, Crete

Gavdos, the southernmost point of Greece and Europe, is an island of unique historical, geographical, cultural and geopolitical significance.

It is also traditionally associated with Homer’s mythical Ogygia, the island where, according to the Odyssey, the nymph Calypso welcomed and hosted Odysseus.

The SMART ISLANDS Conference highlights the challenges and opportunities facing Greece’s remote and border islands, while promoting innovation, sustainability and digital connectivity.
