The White Tower, Thessaloniki’s most iconic landmark, has unveiled its new lighting scheme. The carefully designed illumination accentuates its architectural features and prominent setting along the city’s waterfront, while preserving the historic character and cultural significance of this enduring symbol of Thessaloniki.

“Buildings are never just buildings. They are silent witnesses to our history, but also active forces in shaping it” noted Nikitas Kaklamanis, President of the Hellenic Parliament, at the opening of the major exhibition "Architecture in Greece: The Mysterious Language of Form".
Held from 17 October 2026 to 17 January 2027 at the former Public Tobacco Factory on Lenorman Street in Athens, the exhibition is organized with the support of the Hellenic Parliament and co-organised by Citylab and the Technical Chamber of Greece.
Mr Kaklamanis also underscored the political significance of architecture, explaining why the Hellenic Parliament attaches such importance to initiatives that connect culture with civil society.
“As President of the Parliament, I would like to emphasise the close relationship between architecture and democracy,” he said, noting that the design of public spaces is never neutral but reflects society’s values and attitudes towards coexistence, equality, accessibility and participation.
“A democratic society needs spaces that bring people together, not spaces that shut them out. It needs spaces that are open, accessible and welcoming, paces that foster encounters, communication and dialogue,” he concluded.

Today, we pay tribute and express our deepest gratitude to all those who fought and sacrificed selflessly for our freedom and our homeland.
The historic “NO” (OXI) remains an enduring symbol of courage and resistance, inspiring generations of Greeks and standing as a universal symbol of the struggle for freedom and human dignity.
We honor our past, keep our history alive, and move forward with faith in our values.
