ANIMASYROS 2026 Returns to Syros! 🎬✨

The ANIMASYROS International Animation Festival returns for its 19th edition from 21–27 September 2026, bringing award-winning films, distinguished international guests and exciting new collaborations to Syros.

The main theme of this year’s edition is dedicated to “200 Years of Hermoupolis,” marking the anniversary of the naming and founding of the island’s capital in 1826 and the birth of Hermoupolis, the city of Hermes, the ancient Greek god of commerce and eloquence – an anniversary that Syros is celebrating throughout the year.

Highlights include the participation of acclaimed sound designer Olivier Calvert, masterclasses, screenings, the Agora, educational workshops, VR experiences and much more.

Greek Film “Broken Vein” Selected as Greece’s Official Oscar Entry

🎥 The feature film “Broken Vein”, directed by Yiannis Economides, has been selected as Greece’s official submission for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards, organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the United States.

🎥 Η ταινία μυθοπλασίας Σπασμένη Φλέβα του σκηνοθέτη Γιάννη Οικονομίδη επελέγη ως επίσημη υποψηφιότητα της #Ελλάδας για το Βραβείο #OSCAR Διεθνούς Ταινίας Μεγάλου Μήκους, στο πλαίσιο της 99ης διοργάνωσης της Ακαδημίας Κινηματογράφου (Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) των H.Π.Α.

➡️ Επισημαίνεται ότι σύμφωνα με το άρθρο 35 του ν. 3905/2010 και την υπ’ αρ. ΥΠΠΟ/303859/02.07.2025 (Β΄ 3615) υπουργική απόφαση, όπως τροποποιήθηκε με την ΥΠΠΟ/267408/15.06.2026 (Β΄ 3626) όμοια απόφαση, το κινηματογραφικό έργο με το οποίο εκπροσωπείται η Ελλάδα στις διαδικασίες των βραβείων OSCAR για την κατηγορία Διεθνούς Ταινίας Μεγάλου Μήκους προτείνεται από το #ΥΠΠΟ, μετά από σύμφωνη γνώμη Επιτροπής που απαρτίζεται από δεκατρία μέλη και συγκροτείται αποκλειστικά για τον σκοπό αυτό. Τα μέλη της Επιτροπής διορίζονται από το Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού κατόπιν υπόδειξής τους από κινηματογραφικούς φορείς.

➡️ Η Επιτροπή που συγκροτήθηκε με απόφαση του Υφυπουργού Πολιτισμού, για το έτος 2026, συνήλθε σε συνεδρίαση και, μετά από διεξοδική συζήτηση, πρότεινε κατά πλειοψηφία το κινηματογραφικό έργο Σπασμένη Φλέβα ως επίσημη υποψηφιότητα της Ελλάδας, με το σκεπτικό ότι πρόκειται για μια ταινία αφηγηματικά, καλλιτεχνικά και τεχνικά άρτια, η οποία παράλληλα επαναγράφει μοτίβα της αρχαίας τραγωδίας με έναν τρόπο αναγνωρίσιμο σε διεθνές κοινό, πάνω σε μία αφήγηση γύρω από το αδιέξοδο ενός ήρωα τοποθετημένου στην Ελλάδα του παρόντος, συνδυάζοντας έτσι το οικουμενικό με το τοπικό στοιχείο, από έναν σκηνοθέτη διεθνώς αναγνωρισμένο.

Ο Υφυπουργός Πολιτισμού έκανε αποδεκτή τη γνώμη της Επιτροπής και εξέδωσε τη σχετική υπ’ αρ. ΥΠΠΟ/393781/04.09.2026 απόφαση.
Το Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού μεριμνά για την έγκαιρη ολοκλήρωση των διαδικασιών εκπροσώπησης της Ελλάδας στην 99η διοργάνωση των βραβείων OSCAR, σύμφωνα με τους κανονισμούς της Ακαδημίας Κινηματογράφου των Η.Π.Α.

An exhibition entitled “Learning about the Late Edo and Meiji Periods through Ernest Satow, F. Beato, Lafcadio Hearn and Kyōsai” is being presented with, among other supporters, the patronage and support of the Embassy of Greece.

The exhibition features objects and historical documents relating to the Greek-Japanese writer Lafcadio Hearn, as well as the entrepreneur and photographer Felice Beato, who spent a significant part of his childhood in Corfu.

Both remarkable personalities played a decisive role in introducing the Western world to Japanese culture during the late 19th century, creating lasting cultural bridges between Japan and the West.
