A Summer of Culture in Greece: International Arts Events Across Iconic Destinations in June 2026
A series of important cultural events in cinema, visual arts, dance, music, poetry, and wellness with an international footprint will take place in June across Athens, Hydra, Corfu, Piraeus, Heraklion (Crete), Tinos, Rhodes, and Mystras, with the support and under the auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).

From June 22 to 25, 2026, Hydra will host “Art Cinema Hydra Summer 2026,” an international cultural program featuring artist residencies, exhibitions, film screenings, creative workshops, artist meetings, and international collaborations with participants from Greece, the United States, India, and the Middle East. The events are part of Hydra’s annual cultural program and are complemented by the island’s historic festival “Miaoulia,” held on June 27 and 28. The initiative aims to strengthen Hydra’s international profile and, more broadly, Greece’s position as a contemporary high-quality cultural tourism destination, with an emphasis on creativity, collaboration, and authentic cultural experience.
From June 25 to 28, 2026, the Dora Stratou Theatre in Athens will host the 12th Bollywood and Multicultural Dance Festival, a culturally distinctive event within the city’s summer artistic program. The festival aims to promote Greece as a crossroads of cultures, highlighting the performing arts of dance and music, as well as the spirit of peaceful coexistence beyond geographical boundaries. Its program includes workshops, performances, presentations, lectures, bazaars, and more, featuring dancers, musicians, singers, and cultural figures from Greece and abroad.
On June 27, 2026, at the Old Fortress of Corfu, the Ionian Islands Symphony Orchestra will present, for the first time, a symphonic tribute to Lavrentis Machairitsas. This landmark event is expected to contribute to the promotion of cultural tourism and further enhance Corfu’s image as a leading travel destination. CINEμάθεια 2026: Building Cultural Bridges Across the Aegean and the Greek Diaspora
For the 14th consecutive year, the Aegean Inter-Island Film Festival “CINEμάθεια” is being held once again this year. The festival builds cultural “bridges” not only among the islands of the Aegean, but also with schools of the Greek diaspora, extending its reach over the past four years.
This year, 43 ten-minute films will compete, divided into categories such as documentary, fiction, animation, and music video. Entries are also grouped into two separate levels: lower secondary (Gymnasium) and upper secondary (Lyceum).
Participating schools come from the islands of Lemnos, Lesvos, Chios, Evia, Leros, Patmos, Tilos, Chalki, Rhodes, Andros, Amorgos, Santorini, Syros, and Crete. Additional participation comes from Greek schools in Astoria, New York, as well as the Patriarchal School of Jerusalem.

Athens Launches Roadmap to the 2027 European Film Awards
The Hellenic Film Academy unveiled its new programme of activities leading up to the European Film Awards, which will be held in Athens in January 2027. The announcement was made during a press conference hosted on the rooftop of Athens City Hall.
The event was opened by the Mayor of Athens, followed by remarks from Athina Kartalou, General Director of Greek Cinema at the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center – Creative Greece (HFC), and Lefteris Charitos, President of the Hellenic Film Academy.
Implemented with the support and collaboration of HFC, the programme will run from June to December 2026 and aims to showcase Greek cinema while strengthening its connections with the broader European film landscape.

A new initiative bringing prominent figures of contemporary European cinema to Athens through public conversations and masterclasses. Its inaugural edition welcomes two distinguished European creators, Anna Hints and Vicky Krieps, who will engage with audiences this evening.

Special features, podcasts, and curated film selections designed to bring Greek and European cinema to even wider audiences.

A nationwide screening programme featuring more than 50 landmark Greek films, accompanied by discussions and presentations.
