On December 11, in a historic decision for Greece, the members of the Eurogroup elected Kyriakos Pierrakakis as the new President of this informal group of 20 eurozone finance ministers for the next 2.5 years.

This is the first time that a Greek official has held this position; he will also take over as president of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM).

🏛The Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών - University of Athens has been ranked among the top 200 in the world for 2025, according to the "Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities (NTU Rankings)".

With this distinction, the University of Athens becomes the first Greek University to break into the top 200 (2025) joining the world’s leading institutions in one of seven internationally recognized and widely respected global benchmarking systems that apply a comprehensive, multi-criteria framework.

8 more Greek universities figured in the rankings; tese were, by order of rank: the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Harokopio University of Athens, the National Technical University of Athens, the University of Ioannina, the University of Thessaly, the University of Patras, and the Technical University of Crete.

In addition to the overall rating, NTU provides rankings by 6 knowledge fields and 27 subject areas. Here too the University of Athens distinguished itself by making its way into the top Universities in 5 out of 6 fields. Particular mention should be made to the field of Medicine, in which the University of Athens ranks 102nd worldwide.
