Ahead of Art Athina 2025, the city’s major cultural event, scheduled this year for September 18th-22nd at the Zappeion Mansion, a pop-up event is launched to enhance the experience: Art Athina Pop Up at the InterContinental Athenaeum Athens

This pop-up event will run from May 29th through June 29th, offering a preview of the upcoming Art Athina 2025. It will showcase contemporary art from a diverse group of Greek and international artists, providing an excellent opportunity to experience contemporary art in a more intimate setting.

Finch of Athens, Art Zone 42

Focusing on sculpture, 27 artworks will transform the space and challenge conventional exhibition settings. The exhibition aims to serve as an intervention in the city’s cultural map, extending the experience beyond established art spaces.

The visitors will have the opportunity to browse works by contemporary artists, selected by galleries that will be participating in the upcoming Art Athina 2025. These creations will be in dialogue with the artworks that belong to the permanent collection of the InterContinental Athens.

Deanna Maganias, Rebecca Camhi Gallery

Art Athina Pop Up curator, Savvas Sagioglou, points out that “the exhibition is shaped by the materiality of the works, the straightforwardness of their construction and the way they define and are defined by space. The overall idea focuses on the autonomy of each sculpture, allowing its presence to develop freely and engage in dialogue with the viewer.”

With this pop-up project, Art Athina establishes its footprint beyond its major annual event taking place at Zappeion Hall. It reaffirms its role as a pillar of the contemporary art scene in Greece, creatively engages with city life and keeps the dialogue between works, arts and the public alive.

Anestis Ioannou, Crux Gallerie

Art Athina, one of Europe’s longest-running contemporary art fairs, was established in 1993 by the Hellenic Art Galleries Association. Over the years, it has managed to reach broader audiences and serves as a significant platform for artists to showcase their work and actively engage in dialogue with the public.

Through a wide range of dynamic collaborations, synergies and diverse parallel activities, Art Athina brings together artists, galleries and art lovers, promoting Greek contemporary art and shaping the field of visual arts in Greece. It has significantly contributed to promoting contemporary artistic creation, creating bridges of communication for all the parties involved and establishing  Athens as a leading cultural destination.
