Documenta is one of the longest-running and most important, international contemporary art exhibitions. Founded in 1955, it takes place every five years in Kassel, Germany and is known for its significant influence on modern art worldwide or as
the Summer Olympics of the art world. In 2017, for the first time in its history, it will be held in two places: in Kassel, Germany, and in Athens, Greece.
South as a State of Mind is a bi-annual arts and culture journal, published in Greece and distributed internationally, aiming to shape a concept of the South as a ‘state of mind’ rather than a set of fixed places on the map.
For the next two years, the joint project of documenta 14 and South as State of mind, titled “d14 South” will publish four special issues, edited by Quinn Latimer, d14’s editor-in-chief of publications, and d14 artistic director
Adam Szymczyk. The “d14 South” is conceived as a place of research, critique, art, and literature that will parallel the years of work on the d14 exhibition. It will also be published online in three languages: Greek, English, and German.
