Porto Lago / Lakki: a 1930’s model town in the Aegean

On the island of Leros in the Dodecanese archipelago of the Aegean Sea you can find a strange town that looks like an old movie set. This is the town of Lakki, or Porto Lago as it was originally called when it was built in the 1930s, during the Italian occupation of the Dodecanese. Some of its buildings have been declared monuments by the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yannis Loverdos, met with the Ambassador of Japan to Greece, Mr. ITO. The meeting focused on bilateral cooperation and on further strengthening relations between the two countries, particularly in Shipping, Tourism, and Culture.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Deputy Minister presented Ambassador ITO with an anthology of modern Greek poetry translated into Japanese, as well as a copy of the exhibition catalogue titled “Greece–Japan Relations through Diplomatic Documents.”
