On February 9, the Permanent Delegation of Greece to UNESCO, under Permanent Delegate Georgios Koumoutsakos, organized a landmark cultural celebration at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris for the first official World Greek Language Day. The event marked the historic proclamation of February 9, following its ratification by UNESCO’s General Conference last November.

All speakers highlighted the Greek language’s 3,000-year contribution to global civilization and its uninterrupted continuity. Distinguished Greek actors brought to life emblematic texts and poems of Greek literature, spanning from antiquity to the modern era, followed by a musical segment.

The exhibition “The Greek Language Was Given to Me”, inaugurated the same day by the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, runs until February 13.
